Standby Mode

For some unknown reason, I can no longer have my computer go standby. The
error I get when it attempts to do so is "keyboard driver will not allow."
??? Any ideas out there as to why this happened? The only thing out of the
ordinary that I have done lately was to recover my hard drive with my
recovery disk because I was having some problems with my video, specifically,
my tv tuner would give me audio but no video. I thought. Going to my dvd
preview screen to copy a mini dv tape, low and behold there was the tv video.
Anyhow, that's all straightened out now, since I recovered the drive. Do
you think this action could have contributed to this problem - of not being
able to go standby? Hardware says driver & keyboard working well.
Thanks

Some more background information would be helpfull to get an idea how to
resolve the problem:

- Where is the message "keyboard driver will not allow." listed?
- Do you notice any error messages in the Event Viewer?
- Note any problems listed in the hardware tree of the Device Manager
(Start, Run and type devmgmt.msc). Be sure that the Show Hidden Devices check
box is checked.
- Is keyboard driver uninstalled and then reinstalled?
- What are the Serie - and Model Part Numbers of your computer AND keyboard?

The error message is listed in the center of my screen soon after it
attempts to go standbye. The specific wording is as follows - The device
driver for the standard 101/102 key or Microsoft Natuarl PS/2 keyboard,
device is preventing the machine from entering standbye. Please close all
applications and try again. If the problem persist you may need to update
the driver. - Monitor as well as the hard drive do their thing and shut off
after the 5 min set. The standby mode should follow 5 min later and when it
tries that's when the alert appears.
No problems listed in the hardware tree and show hidden devices box is
checked.

I am running a Sony Pentium 4 2.80 Ghz - UCV 097XEUM intel.

Keyboard is Sony Mdl PCUA-KB4 P/U - PN 147780511 SN 0323073.

I also went to Microsoft to get all updates.

Seems to me that I had this problem quite sometime ago but it went away???
However, I'm not sure about that....

Hope the info I provided is what you need to assist me sucessfully.

Thanks

Al,

I have spent hours today in vain trying to find a Sony WEB site with support
of the devices as specified, objective of which was to find a reference to
the current driver to install for the keyboard. Normally this would be the
first step to take in resolving such a culprit, based on the error message
you reported back.

Such a measure still might be considered, however may you firstly note and
follow the Microsoft article ""Device Driver for the Standard 101/102-Key or
Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard" Error Message When You Try to Enter Standby":

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/814149

In case that one doesn't resolve the "no standbye" issue, I would say the
next step is to either remove - and download the keyboard driver which
presumably came with your Sony Pentium 4, or better: Download the most
current driver from the actual WEB site, wherever in the world you bought the
computer.

Feel free to come back for other thoughts, if so needed.
