standby mode

I have windows XP professional with SP3 installed. After I haven't used my
system for a while , i.e., an hour ,it goes into standby mode. Then when I
want to use it I can't get it out of standby by typing on the keyboard or
using the mouse I have to hit reset. What could cause this?
Does it have anything to do with SP3, I know it didn't do it before that
update.

Control Panel > Power Options are where you choose your Standby and
Hibernation settings.

Control Panel > System > Hardware tab - Device Manager is where you
choose whether mouse movements or keyboard strokes can 'wake' your computer.

This worked great. I had been looking for an answer to fix the same problem
for a few days, and this was all it took thanks.
