Recovery from standby failure(XPP)

Recently my system started to exhibit difficulties recovering from standby.
This system is a little over a year old and has never had issues with standby
or hibernation. Sometimes it would successfully recover and sometimes it
would just freeze when waking up. I'd get the display as if it was going to
completely recover buy it wouldn't proceed any further. No drive activity at
all. I even tried using hibernate instead to see if it would recover from
that state, but, it failed as well.
My suspicions were that possibly a MS update might have overwritten a file
needed for standby to work properly so, here is what I've tried:

Update video driver
Update BIOS
Update MB chipset driver( in fact all the MB drivers)

Not sure what else to try.

If anyone else has any ideas, I'd be very glad to hear them.....

Thanks for your consideration.

Kim, if your system is a known brand like HP, Dell, etc have you checked
with the manufacturers knowledge base?

Actually this is a system that I built over a year ago. My issue is the fact
that it ran for over a year, suspending at will and recovering without a
hitch until recently. I just don't know what else to try.

Do you possibly have a restore point from before this problem started? You
could try restoring back to then.

How large is your C partition and how much free sisk space? How
fragmented?

Hope this helps.

Tom,
I don't have any restore points far enough back to impact this issue. Any
ideas are appreciated.
Thanks
