Standby Mode, CPU Fan will not shut down

When I am in Standby mode the CPU Fan will not shut down. I have updated the
bios. Device manager, under system devices, no specific icon for cpu standby.
I have reviewed task manager/processes prior to entering standby, nothing
running to keep the cpu working. What steps do I need to take in order to
resolve this issue?

There are three low power states referred to as 'standby'.

S1 is usually found in older systems that aren't compatible with more
sophisticated types of power management. At S1 the hard drive(s) and
monitor are shutdown, but everything else is running normally.

S2 also cuts power to the CPU.

S3 shuts down almost everything except for the barest trickle of
electricity needed to 'wake' the computer.

Your BIOS will show you which level of Standby is set.

If your motherboard do support the level 3 stand-by (see Leonard's
post), it's most likely that it's not the CPU fan that is still
running. Most CPU fan is power management compliant. The one that is
still running is most probably a passive fan which is not power
management compliant. Or the BIOS is not fully power management
compliant.

See if there is a newer BIOS firmware for your PC.
