Hi,
When my copmputer is in standby mode my CPU fan keeps running.
(I'm sure it's the CPU fan - I checked).
I have an epox motherboard with an AMD CPU. The CPU fan is connected to
the motherboard.
I'm using windows XP sp1.
Any suggestions???

Thanks!

Depends in your BIOS, a S1 power management event will keep the fans running
and other devices. A S3 event will turn all devices off including the fans.

Hi,
I followed your advice. All devices DID turn off :) , but... that
included my mouse and keboard so I couldn't return from standby.
I also tried setting to S1&S3 but then the CPU fan doesn't turn off
again...
Is there a way to change the settings of S1 or S3?? Or do something
else?

Thanks again.

Look at your motherboard manual or the manufacturer's web site. And yes S3
does turn everything off including CPU Fan, so you have to use the power
button to come out of standby.

I know about the power button - that didn't work. It just started a set
of very alarming beeping sounds - for a moment I thought I burnt the
CPU. I had to turn the computer off in order to turn it back on.

What type of board to you have or computer?

It's likely that the cpu fan is using built-in thermal protection, and will
not shut off until the cpu is sufficiently cooled. Depending on the depth of
the power state, this may never be achieved on some systems.
