Standby/Hibernate

I have tried to reinstate my Hibernate action when I close the lid on my
laptop. For some reason it was de-activated and will not activate when I
apply it in the Power Settings, advanced. Can anyone tell me where I have to
go to correct this?
Also, my Standby button is not an option when I shut down. This all
occurred after I installed a new printer. What did I do wrong?
