Stand by option gone

Please select (highlight) the heading titled "Video" in the left pane of
SIW, and tell us what it shows in the right pane. We don't need the
Monitor info or the other things below Video when you expand it....just
the info when you have Video highlighted.

Also, you still have not told us the brand and model of the
computer.....is it a Dell or another OEM brand? If so, what model is
it...name and number, it would be on the front of the computer of it is
a desktop computer, or on top when opened if it is a laptop.

It does not reflect on the accuracy of SIW. Many diagnostics get
erroneous info from the temp sensors, depending on what sensors are used
on a particular motherboard.

Since no where in the universe, including on the sun there is such
temperature, and in my house surely is not that hot, in fact it is a bit
cold here as I like it cold, it shows you the reliabilty of that SIW
program.

However, tomorrow this computer goes for clean format and clean install that
will eliminate all the guesses.

Thanks to all

Well, okay - your Stand By button still may not work though after you
reinstall and apply whatever you applied to break it in the first
place! If it does, your Hibernate option may not work either. That
is broken too, right?

Believe me, this is not a hard problem to fix if you would take the 30
seconds or so to follow the directions and post the information. It
is usually the same thing with Hibernate - when you press Shift, Stand
By will turn into Hibernate (on most systems). When it quits working
or never has worked, almost always "something changed" and the problem/
solution is frequently found in a video driver change made
accidentally, unknowingly or sometimes on purpose.

SIW has some value apparently, but you do not need it to determine the
cause of this issue. It is pretty though. Telling someone to run SIW
and expecting them to be able to locate, interpret and report the
information from SIW is too complicated for this issue and requires
additional mesaging. It almost always results in many more
frustrating messages and delays resolution.

You can get the instructions to run SIW, but the instructions for what
to do after you download and run it always seem to come later... more
questions. Not so with my method. Oh yeah... and in addition to the
video information, we need to know your system brand, and model. As
you can see from my example, all that is in msinfo32 and you can even
tell on a home grown system.

I will never ask what is your OS, what is your Service Pack, what is
your BIOS, it it a laptop or a desktop, what is your motherboard, what
is your CPU, 32bit or 64 bit, how much RAM do you have, what are your
Virtual Memory settings, what kind of video card, what video driver
(or sound if that is your problem), is it built in or an I/O card. I
will ask one question and get it all (usually). There is nothing to
type in for a reply (just copy/paste), there are no typos,
transcription problems and nothing for leave out or forget. Zero
additional questions about something I forgot to ask. If my questions
are wrong, I will make new questions.

It is important to ask the right questions and I know the right
questions to ask and try to solve the issue in just one interaction
after getting the information. I did not just make up my questions on
the fly or forget to ask things - I know what to ask to get puh-lenty
of information with as few questions as possible.

I want to solve these routine problems with as little interaction and
guesswork as possible. I have solved this problem countless times and
with lots of practice, these problems become routine and no longer
intellectually stimulating.

Based on the info you supplied from SIW, this is what comes up at Intel
for your display drivers:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=13032&ProdId=1673&lang=eng

Since you appear to be planning a format, you will still need diplay
drivers when done.

You will also need these chipset drivers:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=14713&ProdId=1673&lang=eng

....and these audio drivers for onboard audio:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=7525&ProdId=1673&lang=eng

....and if there is onboard LAN, you will need the network drivers:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=8659&ProdId=1673&lang=eng

Good luck.

Glen...you are one of a kind...thank you

Here is the data on "VIDEO" from the SIW program.

But before I go away, what you mean I will still need the video drivers ?
Will they not show up after complete format ?

BTW: I know very little on this and it will be done by professionals in a
shop.
So if you are right about the video drivers I'll be back to this page to get
the necessary drivers you recommend but I hope to God the Clean install
will get me out of this mess.

Hereeeee....VIDEO by SIW:

My dear Glen.
I'll be back in two days after the big "surgery" on this computer.....and if
this too won't work I'll throw it away and buy a new one even though it is
only 18 months old
Thanks

Ok, similarly to msinfo32, it is not showing any video adapter info
because none is installed in Windows. msinfo32 will not show it either
unless it is installed.

Since you supplied the motherboard info which was shown correctly in
SIW, and stated the video was onboard (integrated with the motherboard),
searching the Intel site for that board and chipset yielded the drivers
I posted. You may be able to solve your current issue simply by
installing the video driver I linked.

After a format and reinstall, Windows will need the drivers I posted
links to, as Windows will not have them included in its database of
drivers.

If you are having a "professional" do the work, be sure to specify that
you want to correct drivers installed. You never stated if it was a
brand-name computer (dell, HP) or a custom system.
