Stanby and Network Monitor

Single PC with 2 users.

I just tried stand by instead of shutting down.
Worked OK *but* I noticed the Network Monitor
icon on the taskbar is on all the time.
Usually it it remains idle until there is some network
traffic and then " blinks" on and of.

Why is this?

Any help or advice appreciated.

Problem solved.

Solution was:
Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Add/Remove Windows Components
Tick the box "Management and Monitoring Tools"

NOTE:
This was not installed during Windows set-up and I had
to insert my Windows2000 CD in order to copy the files.
