All righty, then. What's the question?

It can be very hard for a non-technical person to know what to include
in a post to a tech support newsgroup. Here is a link that will help
you with that - http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm

OOOps where did the rest of go?
To continue; having selected the photos to delete I release the CTRL key ,
press the delete key and instead of the selection being deleted a copy
appears. In addition if I subsequently hover the mouse over one of the
photos previously selected even more copies appear. At one time I ended up
with 35 copies and had to delete them one by one.
If I go to View/ List I can select all the images to delete and they get
deleted.
Any ideas?

The extra copying usually is because the hand is not as steady as it
should be. It also sounds like you have the mouse set to use a single
click instead of the double-click. Frankly, I find the single click
very difficult to manage in Windows. If you want to change to the
double-click option, you can do that from the Folder Options applet
General tab.

For the Ctrl-Del problem, maybe it is your keyboard. It's hard for me to
guess without watching you. I find it easier to Ctrl-select and then
right-click on any of the selected items and left-click on Delete.

You can also try lowering the mouse sensitivity. If that doesn't work,
try increasing the number of pixels for the drag operating which should
help with the multiple copying problem.

HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop
Data type Range Default value
REG_SZ Number of pixels in decimal 4

Determines the width of the rectangle used to detect the start of a drag
operation.

Another factor might be the mouse you are using. Is it wireless?
Optical? Does the problem occur with a different mouse?

So maybe some of these ideas will help you.
