If Word crashes, it leaves all sorts of junk behind that can cause
problems - see
http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm
In tools > options > spelling and grammar, uncheck - suggest from main
dictionary only
If Word is crashing regularly, this points to some form of corruption and it
too needs a medical check
1. Run detect and repair from the help menu. This will fix any corrupt
system files.
2. With Word closed, rename normal.dot to oldnormal.dot.
3. Temporarily remove any Word add-ins from the Word and Office startup
folder.
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/CheckIfAddinsInstalled.htm
4. Backup then delete the Word data key from the registry - see
http://www.gmayor.com/my_toolbars_are_missing.htm for the procedure.
This will return Word to as close to its install defaults as possible. You
will have to reset your personalisations to tools > options and to tools >
autocorrect/autoformat as you type.
If all is now well, re-introduce the add-ins one by one and test each for a
return of the problems. If Word crashes again, refer back to
