I was stunned to find out a spellchecker does not come
with windows xp---are they nuts!!

I just bought a new computer and windows xp was on it.
Used to have windows ME. The spell checker was included
in ME.

Where do I find the spellchecker to download.
It also says no dictionary is installed.

Help Please

Thanks

Spell checker was not included in ME or any windows versions. Outlook
express has always used the spell checker from MS Word. Your old computer
probably had word installed. Install it on the new computer and you'll have
your spell checker back.

The spell-checker was not included with Windows ME. No
operating system from Microsoft includes a spell-checker or
office type applications.

I past days, with a different level of prices and sales
pressures, computer companies would include bundled
applications. They still do in some cases, but you have to
read the product specs.

If you want, you can download a stand-alone dictionary that
will allow spell-check with Outlook Express. If you want a
full function office application, you can buy MS OFFICE, or
a little less money for Corel WP, or MS WORKS.

No it was *not* included in Me. Neither Windows Me, XP, nor any
other version of Windows, has ever come with a Spell Checking
facility. Outlook Express uses the spell checker that comes with
Microsoft Word, (or another Microsoft Office program) if you have
it installed.

If a spelling checker came with your Me computer, it's because
the computer came with Word or Office.

Greetings --

Outlook Express, as you're apparently just discovering, has never
had any spell-checking capabilities of its own. Instead, it relies
upon the presence of certain specific other Microsoft applications,
such as the Office Suite, Word, or the Works _Suite_ (which includes
Word, not the regular Works). There are also some 3rd-party
shareware/freeware solutions available at any of the many shareware
sites on the Internet

Spell Magic seems well thought-of, though I haven't tried it myself:
