Spell Checking/Protecting/Unprotecting Word Document

Using MS Office Word 2007. I have a document which tells me, the spelling and
grammar is complete. Text marked with Do Not Check Spelling or grammar was
skipped. (There are obvious spelling errors.) If the problem is in the
document being protected, I do I unprotect it? I took another document
which must have been protected and"saved as" to use the letter head. My
skills are mostly self-taught and I just found this site. The information I
have had time to read is great!
