Speakers that suddenly don't work!

Just as Jake and others in this newsgroup have suddenly
experienced speakers that don't work I also have this
problem. No sound such as the windows system
tones,music, or telephone dial tone is available. Can't
think of having done anything different while using this
XP OS. Do get an initial static like sound when booting
up, but that is all. Yes I've checked the mute etc. Ran
a test with the systems PC doctor which resulted in only
one message. "WAV Test Failure 2511-201".Help!

Overview:
Possible causes of SC400 rev. 3 Audio Failures:
IRQ, DMA, ADDRESS CONFLICTS.
Poor connection between the sound card and slot
or bad slot.
Incorrect connection of CD-ROM data cable or bad
data cable.
Bad or Damaged sound card.
Jumper settings not at default.
Bad or Damaged speakers.
