Sudden MP3 sound loss

I don't even know what to call this problem. I am listening to an MP3
file and suddenly the sound drops to almost inaudible levels. All
tests on the sound card show it is working OK through testing. Some
wav or mp3 files sound OK but some just don't play any more.

I have networked computers and playied the file from the other
computer, which shows the sound is OK. I have no idea what may be
happening. The loss of volume seems to be permanent. I use WMP 10 or
winamp and the results are the same.

I am both baffeled and clueless.

Any ideas?

Open WMP and click View>Enhancements>and check Crossfading and Auto
Volume Levelling. Hope it helps :~)
