No Sound

Other than the obvious (speakers on mute, speakers
unplugged, etc.) I've lost all sound. CD music, dial
tone, windows syes tones et.al. Is there a mute within
the windows xp operating syestem that I may have
inadvertently turned on while attempting to burn a CD?
Attempted to run a check and recieved the message "WAV
Test Failure" 2511-201.
Can anyone help?
