SP3 Inclusion of WMP 11

R

Rich

Greetings,
I understand that WMP 11 will be included in the SP3. I currently use WMP
10 because it syncs with my Dell Axim PDA.
Will WMP 11 be installed automatically? If so, will I be able to revert to
WMP 10?
If not, will I be able to have the ability to "selectively not install" WMP
11.
Thank you for your help,
Rich

Where did you get THAT from?

From the MS site:

"Windows® XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) includes all previously released
updates for the operating system. This update also includes a small
number of new functionalities, which do not significantly change
customers’ experience with the operating system."

Keywords: "operating system".

This if from PC Magazine

"The most obvious new additions are the latest versions of Microsoft's
browser and media player—Media Player 11 and Internet Explorer 7.0—both of
which have been downloadable for quite some time. "

Here is the link...

And I'll thank you in advance to keep your comments civil...

Sorry. I didn't know this is sacred ground, PD43. I do use XP, and Outlook
Express is an integral part of XP. But I have never used MS Outlook, so why
would I belong THERE?

<pft> That's from Oct-07 and references a very early beta version. You
need better sources, my friend.

I see that you suffer from the BUYAS (Broomstick Up Your Ass Syndrome)

You mean that I was RIGHT? MP11 is NOT gonna be in SP3???

THANK YOU. I was gonna check into a nursing home.

Now I don't have to.

The article you reference is simply wrong. I have been using SP3 since the
beta came online and it has never addressed any of the bundled programs.

Download and install SP3 RC refresh and see for yourself. It is feature
complete and has been since beta 2. As in all previous service packs, the
bundled programs (WMP, IE, OE, etc) are not included and updates to the
bundled programs are not included. Even the .net framework is not included
since that is optional with XP. The bundled programs all are updated
separately and always have been.

Nope, Outlook isn't the same as Outlook Express. ;-)

While it does not specifically say that WMP11 will NOT be included in SP3
(and I and many others have not been able to find such a statement on any of
MS's web sites) it does say that IE7 which has also been available for an
extended time is NOT part of SP3

Not to worry. The bundled programs have never been updated by an OS service
pack. You may very safely assume that WMP is in no way affected.
