sp3 bug already

the final, build 5512 is out there now. I got it off
bitTorrent tonight, and noticed after installing it that
System Information shows the 'activation status' as
"activation pending (30 days remaining)." So I tried
'oobe/msoobe /a' to see what would happen, and it came
back saying the box was already activated. It's on my
work system, a VLK box previously running SP2. Never had
any SP3 betas installed.

Why don't you wait for the official release via WU?
You are beta testing the SP if you install it earlier.

Wow. We may have found your problem after only two and a bit sentences of
your post. Microsoft don't distribute software via torrents, so you got the
patch from a place of doubtful integrity. So it may be incomplete, or fsked
with. In either case, nobody with a brain is going to listen unless the
problem can actually be re-produced with a 'known good' copy of SP3 from a
reliable source.

Given its dubious source, no-one is going to take this 'bug' report
seriously.

Wait for the official MS release.

Why would you need to activate after installing a service pack? It is just
an upgrade, not a new OS.

No, he isn't. I believe that MSDN and TechNet subscribers already have it.

It must have overwritten your hacked WGA to allow your VLK copy to
work. Busted.

You still got it from a very unreliable source and you may have installed a
compromised version of the build.

PS: If you believe everything Paul Thurott says, I've got a bridge to sell
you.

Any good dentist can do that.

You use an illicit, pirated copy from an unauthorized source, and are
surprised to have problems? Want to buy a bridge, while we're at it?
