Change Genuine behaviour for Windows XP with Vista serial

Hello,

I bought a new notebook from Fujitsu Siemens, and it came with Windows
Vista. I installed it, but it seems that lots of our softwares aren't
working correctly anymore (I'm a developer).
Therefor I formatted the thing, and installed Windows XP. Since I had
to do it "quick", I used a copy of a Windows XP SP2 CD at one of my
customers.
Now it seems that this copy isn't "Genuine", so I can't install any
updates and stuff.

I'd like to make my Windows XP Genuine, but I can't figure out how!
I contacted our supplier, and he told me that Microsoft allows
downgrading from Vista Business to XP Pro. I had to use a normal
Windows XP SP2 CD, and install it, and then afterwards ring a phone
number (Belgium: 0800 40759 = The Microsoft Key Desk). They would help
me with the downgrade.
Unfortunately, this phone-number asks for 6 sets of 6 numbers, that I
am unable to give, since I can't open the Activate Windows box
anymore! (When I start "oobe /msoobe /a", it tells me Windows is
already activated). I also can't get anyone on the line, so I have to
do it with a machine :s.

I already downloaded the Microsoft Software to change my serial, but
when I enter the Windows Vista serial, it's not allowed.

Therefor: How can make my Windows XP Pro SP2 (English) Genuine,
without re-installing my computer, using my serial of Windows Vista
Business??

Sincerely,
Tim

Do you actually have a valid license/product key for Windows XP ?

The downgrade is the responsibility of the OEM, not Microsoft. You
need to contact the vendor and find out their process for downgrading
Vista to XP.

Product Keys are 5 sets of 5 characters, not six and would have been
the same sequence you entered to install XP.

Hello,

I contacted my reseller, and they told me that I had to buy an
official Windows XP SP2 CD without license (25 EUR), and afterwards
(during install, I reckon) phone the Microsoft Key Desk to make them
do the downgrade and provide me a correct activation-key.
I don't have to buy an official XP SP2 CD, since I already own several
of them.
The activation key is a very long number that you need to enter when
you activate by phone, and is provided by the machine on the other
line. I'm not talking about a product key. I have a legal product key,
pasted on my notebook, for Windows Vista Business, so if someone or
something asks for it, I can provide it.

Greetz,
Tim

Buy and install your own license!
