SP3 Blocker Tool HELP!!!

M

Mary Jo

Downloaded and installed the blocker tool last night. Unfortunately, it did
not seem to install properly - did not receive the successful install window
- and now all I can do is turn my computer on and off. I've lost all admin
privileges, applications will not execute and I've lost internet access.
Error messages received: you do not have authorization or when I try to open
an application - cannot find path...

Is there any way I can get in to uninstall this app??? Or has my computer
been hosed?
Alternate email address: (e-mail address removed)

Thanks for any help, I'm desperate.

You don't say what "blocker tool" you used or where you obtained it.

Malicious software ("malware") could be installed on your computer.

Make sure that your anti-malware software is running, then download the
latest signatures and run a full scan.

If you don't have comprehensive anti-malware software, I'm officially
out of things to say to you. Except for this: Install comprehensive
anti-malware software and learn how to use its features.

Try scanning your system with /several/ of the better online scanners,
such as:
Kaspersky Antivirus (http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner)
Panda ActiveScan (http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan)

Download HijackThis from www.trendsecure.com. Run it, save a log, and
post the log at one of the many sites that support HJT, such as
spywarewarrior.com, bleepingcomputer.com, and temerc.com. Within a day,
sometimes within an hour, you'll have one-on-one step-by-step advice
from a security expert on cleaning up any infestations—or you'll have a
clean bill of health from the volunteer expert.

Even the best detection and removal software can't fix every malware
infection. If none of the above remove the infection, you may want to
show the computer to a professional.

P.S. Don't include your real e-mail address in a newsgroup post unless
you relish spam.

Note: There is a hidden 'Administrator' account (the account name is:
Administrator) in Windows.
The default password for this hidden account is normally blank (none).

For XP Home users:
Boot the computer into Safe Mode
Do this by pressing the F8 key (several times) after the Power On Self Test
is finished, until the Start menu appears.
This will get you to the correct menu window.
Once in Safe Mode, you will see the normally hidden Administrator account
and any other accounts.
(Note: Accounts are displayed alphabetically).
Use the mouse or Up/down arrow keys to highlight the 'Administrator'
account.
The default password is a blank (no password required).

For XP Pro users:
You do not need to go into Safe Mode.
At the Welcome Screen, do/press the Ctrl-Alt-Del keys twice to display the
Windows logon box.
Type in "Administrator" (without the quotes), by default the password is
blank, no password need be entered.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. I'm running XP Pro so hopefully I can get in.
Per Loenard's post, the Windows XP SP3 blocker tool came from the Microsoft
Tech Net site.

The computer is free of spy/malware, virus and current on all updates except
for SP3. I run Commodo Firewall and Avast anti-virus both up to date.

I am also unable to run any commands, i.e. cmd, or msconfig, etc.
Will this admin bypass let me in to do that? The blocker tool just installs
a registry key - I used the one for SP2 with no unwanted effects, I was
surprised this is giving me problems.

I'll let you know what happens.

Try System Restore to an earlier date from/inside Safe Mode and see if that
will take you to an earlier working restore point.

Again I advice you to take Earl Grey (leonard) advice (with due respect to
JS Advice) about sending your hijackthi log and run a thorough scan from
another vendor to have naother opinoin on how clean your system.

My guess is that Commodo mucked up the install, Commodo is very aggressive
in protecting your PC and sometimes
it can step on an install process.

The blocker tool install error will not let me operate anything on my
computer. Until I can get it working or uninstalled - I cannot run ANYTHING.
Applications do not execute, no internet access. I am writing this from
work. I can only turn the computer on and off, nothing else. It's a
gigantic paperweight right now.

I appreciate the advice and am familiar with Trend Mocro and HiJack This,
but please read my original post thoroughly before replying.
