Help needed with MS patch KB891781 and ActiveX controls

E

ECLiPSE 2002

I have Win XP SP3 and just installed WinPatrol Plus and received a
notice that the application uses Active X and a vulnerability exists
that could allow hacking.

It was recommended that I review the Microsoft bulletin MS05-013. This
bulletin MS05-013: is about the vulnerability in the DHTML Editing
Component ActiveX Control Could Allow Remote Code Execution (891781).

Apparently if one installs KB891781 there is a concern that the
Dhtmled.ocx ActiveX control does not work as expected after a program
changes the Visible property of the Dhtmled.ocx control

Web pages that use the DHTML editing ActiveX control may not work as
expected after you install security update 891781 (MS05-013) The
Dhtmled.ocx ActiveX control does not work as expected after a program
changes the Visible property of the Dhtmled.ocx control

Web pages that use the DHTML editing ActiveX control may not work as
expected after you install security update 891781 (MS05-013)

Has anyone installed this patch and what problems if any did you
encounter.

Cn I expect problems with opening and viewing web pages.

TIA,

Mary

your issues stem from the assumption that you'll be using Internet
Explorer. use Firefox with NoScript and run it under Sandboxie.

Problem Solved.

TIA,

Thanks to both responders for their input. I do use Firefox and will
look into its options to figure out how to configure it for No Script
and will have to look up Sandboxie and figure out how to use it.

Internet Explorer is still on my pc but rarely used. But others on the
pc use Outlook Express.

Now I have to find out how to find KB 891781 for downloading.
