Sorry for being so abrupt earlier. I just despise laziness.
I build/repair computers. I have installed SP2 on well over 350 computers
now. I have had exactly 1 problem.
If a customer brings a computer to me "after" they have tried to install
SP2, and it blew up their system, it is going to cost them triple for me to
get the system working.
If they bring me the computer and ask me to install SP2 for them I do the
following:
I create an image of their O/S as it is when they bring the computer TO me.
Then if I have any problems, I have this safety net to fall back on.
Then:
1. I do a complete virus scan with a current version of a quality antivirus
program - using the latest virus definition files.
2. I scan for, and remove any adware, malware trojans etc using 3-4
different commonly available applications.
3. I remove any programs that have a known compatibly problem with SP2.
4. I gather all necessary drivers that may be necessary for hardware
compatibility with SP2.
5. I replace any hardware that is not compatible with SP2.
6. I install all subsequent Windows updates since SP2 was released for
consumption.
7. In rare instances I perform a fresh install of their operating system
using a slip streamed CD containing an integrated copy of SP2.
Many others DON'T do this. Many others have multiple problems.
