SP2 upgrade problem

Tony

Hello,
I have an Athlon 900 PC with SCSI CDRW, a DVD ROM,
Linksys 11b wireless network card and Nvidia 32Meg
graphics card.
All was working ok until I tried to upgrade to SP1a. The
install went ok, right until I got to the welcome screen.
I clicked on my profile and as it was loading my personal
settings, it just re-booted. this was as far as I got as
it just went into a loop.
By going into Safe mode and removing the SP1a upgrade,
the PC goes back to working ok.
A previous post encouraged me to wait for SP2 to come out
and it should solve the problem.
Well, yesterday, I downloaded and installed SP2 ok, but
on trying to log on, I got the same problem. Ok to log on
screen and then re-boots as it is loading my personal
settings.
I have removed the DVD ROM, SCSI CDRW, network card,
sound card, modem and still the problem persists. The
only thing I haven't removed is the graphics card. The
system works in Safe mode but not in VGA mode.
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Neil.

I had a similar problem. My system had 2 nVidia cards
from different vendors that both worked just fine under
XP and SP1, but when I upgraded to SP2, I got a BSoD
during Windows startup, before getting to the welcome
screen. By guess, I removed the PCI video (it was an
ELSA card), and everything booted up just fine -- except
that I've only got 1 screen now.
I'm still trying to find out if there is a problem with
the ELSA card, or if there is a problem with multiple
cards in a system.

Good luck with your problem.

Steve,

there is a particular SP2 problem with Athlon 64 computers and
also another one with certain other processors. Please see
http://www.michna.com/kb/WxSP2.htm for details.

If, however, the problem already occurred with earlier service
packs, then I don't know.
