That is not a very scientific poll.
However if you look at the "Small Problems" group, most are not really
problems.
They are part of the learning curve users must follow to use their
computer.

Furthermore many SP-2 issues in all categories are reduced with proper
preparation.

REALLY?..... Re-installing a bunch of drivers for video cards and other
hardware that used to work, prior to SP2, is hardly a 'learning
curve'........With Windows 98 it WAS a learning curve and all that was
solved in XP......... UNTIL SP2 was foisted on the public... XP was by far
the best OS Microsoft has developed until all the trojans, hackers ad
infinitum got a hold of it...Not blaming Microsoft for them, but this beta
patch SP2, now that's another story...

Not quite a drop:)
Rating Summary
--no opinion-- 3%
no problems 45%
small problems 26%
big problems, but solvable 8%
big problems, could not use/install 9%
had to rebuild system 9%
That makes 52% with some sort of problem.

That a 'self selecting' survey (the respondents have to volunteer their
participation) and are generally discounted as being wildly in-accurate
because of the obvious bias....
Any real survey is anonymous, random, and governed by peer reviewed
statistical testing to prove the accuracy of the results.

IOW I believe the Sans.org results are just as accurate as the claims that
100 million XP SP2 downloads have been done because someone read it a news
group, on a web site, or heard it from a friend of a friend who knows
someone who knows.....

From one of the 45%'ers who had no problems udating to SP2 immediately after
upgrading to XP Pro. (from XP Home)

Want to have a probelm free XP SP2 install? Do homework BEFORE installing XP
SP2.

If there are newer drivers already available from the manufacturer,
that is a big hint of something to look at.
Since you are suggesting the drivers were already available that also
suggests the hardware manufacturers already thought there was the need
since the hardware manufacturers and not Microsoft are responsible for
the drivers.

SP-2 is not "foisted on the public".
It is extremely easy not to get SP-2 as well as any other update.
If anyone had SP-2 "foisted" on them, that just shows they may need to
learn a little more about the computer they use.
That is part of an older learning curve all users should have learned
long ago.

SP-2 installed fine on computers I installed SP-2.
But then the latest drivers were already installed, partially in
preparation of SP-2.
That is also part of an older learning curve.

So to answer your question...Yes, Really.

I still keep coming to here and other news groups even
though I had no problem with the SP2 update. I would
think others do to to try and help the ones that are
having some troubles. Thats what these sites are for.
Helping each other through our troubles. Thats how I feel

MS don't charge anything for fixing SP2 issues and if you would just try
doing a Google search (if you know how) you would know that we don't waste
our time with idle gossip.
Besides these groups are for peer help not stupid petty and, if I may say,
ignorant arguments.

The purpose of a help newsgroup is to help people
resolve problems. The majority of users who successfully
installed SP2 will not post to this newsgroup since they have
no reason to. Why do people visit a medical clinic or hospital?
How often does a healthy person visit a hospital?

SP is a solid, secure product and the vast majority of
Windows XP users will have no problem installing it.
