SP2 Hidden Attribute

Someone posted a funny, sarcastic message intimating SP2 had an interesting
feature; It could be UN-installed! With easily 50% of most messages on this
newsgroup having SP2 related problems, I find it fascinating that some of
the Microsoft MVPs at the outset, herein indicated that SP2 was a solid and
stable piece of software (yeah, right) and that the problems people were
having were their fault in not 'preparing' their PCs for the install.
A whole series of spurious arguments arose around this and still, SP2
continues to generate a wide range of convoluted issues with hardware and
software. Glad I didn't believe the Microsoft apologists and install this
mess.

SP2 is a solid, secure release. It is a major "Critical Update"
for Windows XP and updates over 5 million lines of code,
enabling much stronger security, stability, and affords a tad better
performance benefit. SP2 was extensively tested on hundreds of
thousands of various computer configurations over a period of
many, many months. I would encourage you to install it at your
earliest convenience.

You apparently have no concept of how many computers there are. You'll only
hear about problems on this newsgroup. How about the 59,000,000 computers that
DON'T have a problem??

No clue at all. No, I don't..What's a concept?.. the number of problems on
this Newsgroup is sufficient to tell me there are serious problems with SP2;
I don't need to conceptualize beyond that. , or count PCs on the Internet..
Actually, excuse me please... It is NOT SP2 that is the problem, it is all
the folks who have poorly maintained their computers and don't know what
they are doing that is the problem....You too, like Frisch, must know
something the rest of us don't, and it is most certainly NOT contained in
the PartyLine 'parrot paragraph' he wrote about its' 'stability and (gag!)
performance benefit...
All the URLs he directed me to are , guess whos?.. Microsofts! ...If you
were Microsoft would you admit to a bungle?..I never realized that in the
face of the freeze-ups and slowdowns people are experiencing, we could
simply call them 'performance benefits' and make everyone smile again....
Ah, the Emperors New Clothes....

Your labels "Microsoft apologists" contribute nothing to your post.
Do you have a point of the name calling or are you simply attempting
to inflame the thread?

"With easily 50% of most messages on this newsgroup having SP2 related
problems..."
This newsgroup is for computer problems, thus the posts here not
surprisingly deal with problems...imagine that.
SP-2 is a major update installed on a large number of computers.
The fact there are problems proves very little of what you suggest.
Find a piece of software of any kind that is installed on as large a
cross-section of computers as a Service Pack and you will probably
find a lot of problems with a wide variety of problems.
Do you also walk into a hospital, determine the % of sick vs. well
people and conclude the human race is sick?
Or would you fully research and determine if the hospital was typical
health of the human race?

What causes the problems with SP-2?
Many things as you would know if you looked past the first post in a
thread.
1. Some are not really problems because they are configuration issues
needed because of the new SP-2 security features.
2. Others are issues related to 3rd party hardware, most resolved by
contacting the manufacturer.
3. Still others are software that needs to be reconfigured or updated
to support SP-2.
4. Another major cause is spyware and other malware whether known or
not.
5. Preexisting hardware or software problems whether known or not.
6. A bad download of SP-2
7. Bad installation of SP-2, specific cause unknown.
8. Various issues specific cause unknown.
9. The list goes on.
If everything else is ruled out, a Clean Installation can help
determine the cause.
If a Clean Installation with subsequent installation of SP-2 is
successful, there was a problem that was removed by the Clean
Installation.

I find it interesting that you so quickly dismiss "...SP2 was a solid
and stable piece of software (yeah, right) and that the problems
people were having were their fault in not 'preparing' their PCs for
the install".
Are you suggesting that no problems with SP-2 are caused by the user?

I have a specific issue. When your cut-and-paste BS is
questioned, why do you either ignore it or try to change
the subject? With regard to the "apologist" remark of the
OP, see my response to Jupiter in this thread. Hmmm...I
wonder if anyone has ever seen you and Jupiter in the
same place at the same time.
