Rhetorical question; Why would anyone install SP2 after reading all the
problems people are posting on this forum concerning its' incompatibilites
with their formerly stable system installs?

The purpose of a help newsgroup is to help people
resolve problems. The majority of users who successfully
installed SP2 will not post to this newsgroup since they have
no reason to. Why do people visit a medical clinic or hospital?
How often does a healthy person visit a hospital?

SP is a solid, secure product and the vast majority of
Windows XP users will have no problem installing it.

With well over 100 million downloads of SP2 the problems posted here are a
drop in the ocean.

Does it matter really?.. if you are into definitive proof, I assume that you

I too, come here to learn or get help and my good sense tells me not to fool
around with SP2 at this time, that installing SP2, as you said, may not be
a problem for most but Compatibilities are..even a few are enough to
indicate to me this is another patch that will end-up with a flurry of
patches to patch the patch..
Solid and secure? .........Hmm.

Quoting does not make it true. Post just ONE link anywhere that says this.
There are lies, damn lies and statistics. It is well know that over 94% of
all "statistics" are made up.
I would seriously doubt if the number of downloads of SP2 has even reached
10 million so far.

Proof please not just idle quoting of what you believe.

Not quite a drop:)

Rating Summary

--no opinion-- 3%
no problems 45%
small problems 26%
big problems, but solvable 8%
big problems, could not use/install 9%
had to rebuild system 9%

That makes 52% with some sort of problem.

He's just not gullible or spending his spare time being abducted by
little green men - of course one should have some sort of proof before
spouting figures like 100M downloads. One doesn't want to spread
meaningless rumours!

Your analogies make no sense, I'm afraid. The majority--the *vast*
majority--of users *with* problems won't post here either. The fact is
that you have no reliable statistics regarding how many users are
experiencing problems with SP2--you're guessing, in other words, and you
shouldn't dignify guesses by presenting them as facts. One fact is that
the people who are most likely to have trouble with SP2 are the ones who
need it the most. Anyone who has a secure system--current with pre-SP2
updates, a good firewall and regularly updated antivirus software--is
better off waiting and letting the initial (and inevitable) problems get
worked out.

Testy by name, Testy by nature? I was quoting from several of the MVP's
posts in various forums. Quit nitpicking

Because a MVP says something it doesn't mean it is true. You should really
check your facts before you go spreading false rumours You are an
embarrassment to the Toronto community.

I still keep coming to here and other news groups even
though I had no problem with the SP2 update. I would
think others do to to try and help the ones that are
having some troubles. Thats what these sites are for.
Helping each other through our troubles. Thats how I feel
anyway.

Please provide a link to a post by an MVP that says that there have been
"...well over 100 million..." downloads of SP2 to date. It's *not*
nitpicking; it's presenting a baseless assertion as fact, and then
attributing it to "MVPs." What percentage, do you suppose, of the
people who are having trouble with SP2 even know that there is such a
thing as a newsgroup, let alone how to access it? And if such users
have trouble that prevents them from accessing the web or even booting
to begin with, how will those folks get here?
