sp2 again ??

To all I ask......I have always had a hard time if I upgrade to sp2...I
recently posted questions about it (ongoing sp2 nightmares) and after reading
advise I have removed Norton Security from my computer and installed avg
instead...I have not really had any problems and a lot of system glitches
seem to be gone (ie mouse skipping,,programs not responding,,etc etc
etc)..Each time I have examined event viewer and have found nothing....I have
once again installed sp2 and this morning my system would not come out of
standby...Frustrating to say the least !!!

Custom Desktop system running
P4 2.8 gig with h/t Intel processor
2gigs of pc4000 Crucial Ballistix tracer ram
Bfg 7600 gs oc video card 256 mgs
2 Sata hard drives 1 80gig (system) 1 160 gig (storage) New drive
Connected to high speed through my Linksys WRT54G router (hardware firewall)
windows software firewall
Software is of course win xp home sp2
Counterspy antispyware (Microsoft's defender built on this)
Bill Ps Winpatrol latest version
Lavasofts Ad aware personal
assorted games and utilities
Diskeeper 2007 (defrag program)
Logitech 1000 laser mouse
Saitek eclipse keyboard
Grisoft's AVG antivirus
I also have Hijack this installed to look for problems as well

I consistantly run my antispy and antivirus at least once a week..my defrag
is automatic and runs in the backround has never interfered in any way
before...
Does anyone know what could cause this problem ??

I would be glad to provide more info if necessary (and if possible)..This
entire system is no more than 3 yrs old...My wifes laptop runs pretty much
the same programming and has no problems with sp2

Thanks for any help one can provide............................Drew

Before upgrading your operating system, it must be problem-free. If
you're not able to fix the problems on your system, there's really no
point to upgrading, as it will likely make matters much worse.

Here's some good advice on preparing a computer for SP 2:

"Get Your PC Ready for Windows XP SP2"
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/sp2_whattoknow.mspx

If you're really having trouble, there's no shame in showing your
computer to a professional technician. If it turns out you've got
multiple, hard-to-diagnose problems you may be best served by erasing
your hard disk and starting over.
