SP2 Hangup!

SP2 continually hangs up on startup, at the screen with that rotten blue
bar. I have to restart the computer, go to safe mode, turn off computer
from safe mode, power down computer and then restart, and then my XP (home)
comes up. I had Norton Internet security professional, but I have since
uninstalled it and then reinstalled Norton Anti-Virus as part of Norton
Systemworks 2003. The uninstall did not stop the hangup problems. I also
have spybot and adaware going.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Either boot to Safe Mode and examine the System Event log for
error(s), shown as Red icons or do a Safe Mode with logging. It
will capture all startup drivers and services and perhaps you can
locate the "Hanging" component in the log.

Event Log can be accessed by
clicking Start, Run, (Type) Eventvwr.Msc [Press Enter]

Expand the System category + and double-click each Red icon
to see the details box, which shows a numerical Error code # and
a short description of the event. Event ID #'s can be further checked
by going to the following website:

Restart the computer in Safe Mode > run Disk Clean Up > Defrag the hard
disk, remember to disable the screensaver before doing this.

Click start > run > type in "msconfig" without quotes > startup (tab),
uncheck any unncessary software that might be starting up with the system.
