Getting Error 0X8024402C
SP2 is indicated as being installled on PC as listed in
the updates intalled listing
I don't see any thing different and do not believe SP2 is

Error message from Windows Update website, correct? Recheck the error messages in windows update log file
c:\windows\windows update.log

(Your system may have it at C:\WINNT rather than C:\Windows ).
Use Notepad or Wordpad to open that file and look at bottom of file -- for today's entries. (or fail date).

btw, the Error 0X8024402C is "Winhttp SendRequest/ReceiveResponse failed" ; essentially a name-server resolution failure.
As a temporary measure, reboot the system before going to Windows Update again.

Are you in a network setup? using a proxy server? a stand-alone pc?

If you run WINVER it will display info about your Windows, amongst which you should (hopefully) see "Service Pack 2" in the full description.

Locate the Windows XP SP2 Setup log file C:\Windows\Svcpack.log
Again, use Notepad or Wordpad to review its contents.
