I looked for the string "file staxmem.dll" on Google and found more
than 600 hits.

Are you putting in the original XP SP2 installation CD, or a CD containing
just Service Pack 2?

original XP SP2 installation CD

I've tried also with XP original and XP sp1 but nothing

I'm having exactly the same problem trying to install IIS. I found the
KB894351 article and checked to see if the security file was corrupted, and
the response was that it is ok. So this means that I have to follow Method 2
described in the KB article. But it requires both a XP Pro and a XP Pro SP2
CD. But my PC came with SP2 installed and that is the only CD that shipped
with it. I spent two hours today on the phone with the vendor (HP) to see
what they could do to supply with me a the pre-SP2 CD for XP. Bottom line is
that they have no way to do this. They haven't beenshipping the old version
for a very long time so have nothing in their inventory. This is basically a
MS problem, so I tried to find out from MS if they can supply access to a XP
Pro CD (without SP2) and couldn't get to first base.
Any suggestions out there? I know I can't be the only person in the world
stuck trying to get IIS installed. This has to be a very common problem.

hopefully...

Bill
