Hi, I'll try to explain this......

Tried to do an SP2 update, computer would not boot up, it only went into
safe mode.

I went in safemode and to add/remove programs and didn't see it listed, but
I did see the updates. I clicked the one that had todays date and I removed
it. Shut down tried to restart, but it would only go into safe mode.
I went back to add/remove programs and this time looked more closely (I
know) and in fact SP2 was there. So I clicked it to remove. It went thru the
process but stopped saying it needed a file to continue.

And my guess is the first update I deleted was the file it needed. Anyway, I
did another reboot, nothing. It goes to the black screen asking what do I
want to do, but it won't let me choose any options. It just keeps counting
down, over and over.

I know I messed up, is there any hope?

Ok thats another issue...... right now im at the screen asking how I want
to start up and its counting down, I am unable to choose an option, it
continues counting down over and over.

I initally tried the system restore but there were NO points to choose from.

thanks for the reply

You could try removing it manually

I guess I have never noticed a clock timer counting down in Safe Mode,
although that doesn't mean it isn't there.
Do you have the Sp2 disk,or did you download it from M$?
If you have the disk, and your pc is set to boot from the cd drive, try
booting from the disk to see if there is an uninstall option. If you don't
have the disk, or there is no uninstall option you may need to do a repair
install from your XP operating disk.
Now that the horse is out of the gate, did you do your research on what
steps to take before installing Sp2?
