SP1a No Set Up Wizard

I'm trying to install SP 1a from a CD I made of the download. It self
extracts just fine, but then stops. There is no Set up wizard to finish the
install.
What can I do now?

Just go and get a SP2 installation CD from your local PC supplier or order it
from Microsoft. It's cheaper than downloading.

SP1 is of course superceeded and you might not find a copy anywhere.

You may have a bad download and need to download and burn to CD again.

Also follow the Service Pack Installation checklist:

Change the obvious since you are installing SP-1 instead of SP-2.

Why are you installing SP-1 instead of SP-2?
Unless there is a specific problem or incompatibility with SP-2, you should
install SP-2 instead of SP-1.

I was told by a software manufacturer that the fix to a problem I'm having
with their product (by which daily operations at my business lives or dies)
was SP1a. I have seen lots of horror stories about SP2, so I wanted to avoid
it until its bugs were worked out. I have enought trouble with this
industry-specific software I have to run; I didn't want to knowingly
introduce more potential problems.

The "horror stories" you hear wilt SP-2 are similar to the stories that
occurred during the release of SP-1.
You are just as likely to have problems with SP-1 or SP-2.
So that in itself is not a reason at all.
In both cases, most problems were prevented by ensuring the computer was
ready for SP-2:

However if you have older programs and the manufacturers refuse to make them
compatible with SP-2, it may be best to install SP-1.
The Service Pack Installation Checklist referenced above applies to both
except where obvious.
But you should encourage them to update their software.
