Are there any websites or catergories in microsoft update
where I can download new sounds for windows events [i.e.]
welcome screen, exit windows, alerts, etc?

Not in Windows Update, but you can use almost any WAV file.

Once you find a wave sound to use drag and drop it in

the windows Media folder then it will be displayed when
you click on browse in the sound control panel.
