Soundblaster Live! & Vista x64

P

Piers James

I have a Soundblaster Live! card, probably the most widely used PCI
soundcard in the world, yet there is absolutely no support for this card in
Vista x64. I expected there to be some basic drivers out of the box, and it
looks like Creative aren't even going to bother releasing any drivers.

I have my AC97 on board sound working, but would rather have the
soundblaster up and running. Has anybody got any useful suggestions to
enable my Live! card?

<rant>It seems incredible that hardware manufacturers and MS just drop
support for devices that they consider to be legacy, with no regard for the
installed base around the world. Not everyone upgrades every 3
months!!!</rant>

TIA.

Is there a driver available for Windows XP Pro x64?

I suspect that's no longer the case. The Audigy series has been out
for a number of years now.

Did you actually look for drivers or just assumed since windows didn't load
them there aren't any ? Go to www.soundblaster.com and download them. Less
ranting and more searching tends to work better

Indeed, I do have a plain Live! not a Live 24bit, and I did do my research
before posting.

There is, and I tried using it, but it didn't work. Is there a way to force
it then?

All I can suggest is try the compatibility mode - use WinXP SP2 ?? Usually
Vista, after the first try fails, offers to retry installing using
compatible settings. This didn't happen?

Though hardly a absolutely measuring stick, it is a sample of over 1 million
unique computers.

Here the X-FI and audigy beat out the SB Live! AC97 is the ranking majority
at 25% with soundmax coming in 2nd with 9%

http://www.steampowered.com/status/survey.html

I've thought about this in the past and figured AC97 was #1 since it's
seemingly universal MOBO embedded and most inexpensive computers come
without a sound card.

Piers James:
I don't know if this will work with the SB Live. Unzip the
SoundBlaster file to C: SoundBlaster, uninstall all soundcard drivers,
reboot. After the reboot go to device manager, there should be an unknown
audio device, select update drivers, browse my computer for driver software,
browse, open the unzipped SoundBlaster file, select drivers, click next.
Have a great day.
