Last night I upgraded my Windows ME to XP. Ever since, I have no sound on my
computer. When playing a CD or MP3 file in Media Player, if you turn the
sound up all the way, you can make out the faint sound of static that
coincides with the beat of the song playing. Other than that, there is no
sound. I have wracked my brain trying to figure out how to fix this. Can
anyone help me????

Try updating the drivers for your souncard. You can (usually) get them from the support website of your card's manufacturer.

I have already updated the driver for the soundcard. The device manager says
it is enabled and working properly. Yet, still, I have no sound.

Try looking at the soundcards program functions, and be sure the volume isn't muted, or check Control Panel/Sound and Audio Devices, and make sure the "Mute" box is unchecked. While there, click the "Advanced" button to see if any other relevant boxes are checked under other settings that may be the cause.

While in Sound and Audio Device, click Advanced under Speaker Settings, and be sure you have the correct selection in the drop down box under Speaker Setup

Check the speaker volume controls.

The only other thing I can think of that may be the problem is; you may have (in the actual program setting that runs your sound card ie Creative for Audigy, or Turtle BEach for Voyetra or Santa Cruz) a box checked that says some to similar to "Digital Output Only". If something like that is checked, uncheck it.
