I installed a clean copy of WinXP on my boyfriend's PC and now the sound
doesn't work. I attempted to check for driver updates, but no luck. What can
I do to fix it?

If you did a real clean install, the usual next step is to install the
chipset drivers for the motherboard. Not doing this will prevent a number
of devices from working.

Look for a CD that came with the motherboard, take the motherboard model to
the manufacturer's site, or look up the service tag number.

There should be a CD that came with the machine with drivers and
software for the machine. Also look on the OEM site for drivers for the
sound card.
