Can someone suggest why I am not able to increase the recording volume when
I record a WAV file in XP. I have located all of the volume controls I can
find and turned them all up to maximum both with the recording program and
in the XP controls. The playback can be heard but it is not very loud.
Could it have anything to do with my only having 128 SDRAM?

Perhaps the source audio just isn't "loud" enough for your tastes. You can
use the freeware WavTrim to increase the volume of a wav file:
http://www.logiccell.com/~mp3trim/ Just don't crank it up so far that
clipping results. The MP3Trim utility on that site has similar effects on
mp3 files. Both can also be used to trim digital silence from the beginning
and end of wav or mp3 files. I should say that although I have not used
WavTrim, I have used MP3Trim for years and love it: it's a stand-alone
utility (no install required) and allows you to endlessly adjust your mp3
files with absolutely no quality loss. I can only assume that WavTrim
offers very similar benefits.

Ian.

I would think that is the problem but I would post the question to an on line rep.
