Sound problem

I am running XP and have a problem with the sound. When I play c.d's etc the
sound is running slow and sounds very distant and as if coming from an empty
room.
I have removed the speakers and plugged in some new ones, and the problem is
still there.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

P.s windows sounds are still normal

have you played about with the Equalizer settings? it sounds as if the media
player your using has one, or you have one installed with your soundcard. try
turning it off, then try different settings

The equalizer was off, so I turned it on. Unfortunately it made no
difference. The sound is quite 'fractured' too, if that helps anyone to help
me.

Yes, I have it set to 'none'. How do I find out my sound card's name? I
have a programme installed called "multi channel audio configuration". Maybe
this is the problem?

1. Click Start - Control Panel
2. Open Sound and Audio Devices
3. Click Audio Tab and note down the Sound Playback device name.

I have a sound card which has a utility called "Sound Effect Manager". There
is an option called "Voice Cancellation" and "Key" value. Checking this
option result desorted sound. See if you have the same configuration too and
uncheck that option and set the KEY option to 0.

Let us know!

Hey, thanks, the key was set at -3, so I set it at 0 like you suggested,
this has made a big difference. It's not quite perfect though. Still abit
fractured. I'm going to go back in and try setting at +3.
I will report back!

Yes, that is how I have it set. The sounds in my children's games now work
fine. It just seems to be music c.ds that have a problem? At least thae
biggest part of the problem is fixed.
Thanks so much RajKohli, I will check back later to see if you have any
other suggestions.

No more suggestions as you still not provide me the exact name of your Sound
Device. Without that I will not able to make any more guesses. One more thing
you can check. If you have some songs saved in your Computer then try playing
them and see if they too have some voice problem. Try a different player like
if you currently playing the song in Windows Media Player try playing them in
another Media Player if you have. Try playing the Window Sounds through
Control Panel - Sounds and Audio Devices - Sounds tab. See if they have any
problem. If you have more than one Window Users then try playing sound in
other user account and check if the same problem presist there too.

Let us know!

I have just done what you suggested and played the saved songs and the music
plays fine, so I only have a problem when I am listening from the disc
through windows media player, or real player.

Is it a Audio CD or MP3 CD?
Have you tried any other CD?
Could be possible that the problem is with CD itself.

Let us know!
