Sound problem

Hi everyone.

Went to play a CD the other day and could only hear the soundtrack - no
vocals!
Went into Control panel/Sounds and Audio devices and checked everything -
everything seemed OK until I began moving the speaker balance control.

When I moved the slider to the left, the audio came back and the CD sounded
normal.
When I moved the slider to the right, the audio came back and the CD sounded
normal.
When I moved the slider to the centre again, the audio disappeared again.

I don't play much music on the CD drive but noticed, about three weeks ago,
that there was a noticeable hum/buzz coming from the speakers that I had not
been aware of before.

The computer is a Dell 3100 (Cel 346) with integrated audio and basic Dell
A215 speakers.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Mike

Try opening device mgr, expand the sounds tree,R.click on youre hardware,
select "uninstall" do not restart computer,do this for all sound hardware
listed,
once thru,exit properties,shutdown computer.If you have a sound card,unplug
computer, move it to another pci slot, power up start xp,xp will reinstall
either
