When I plug my headphones into the headphone jack sound still comes out of
the computer speakers, it's just muted slightly. Any ideas?
Which headphone jack? The jack that is just under the CD/DVD Rom tray is a
left-over from the earily days of the first 1X CD Rom drives. Most PCs do not
use thiis jack so yoy should "ignore" it.
There exists a sound switch box where you press/turn a button in order to get
sound out from speakers or headphones. This plugs into the "Speaker out"
jack. Tthen the headphones and speakers plug into to correct jack on the
switch. If you need to sound to come out on both, just get a Y adapter.
