Sound has disappeared without warning

I've tried to search through the archives for a similar situation and didn't
find it - sorry to duplicate if that's the case.

My sound just stopped working. No warning, nothing. According to the info
in the control panel all devices are working properly. All the settings are
set correctly.

I don't use speakers or attach too many gadgets to my laptop. The exception
is that
I recently started using a webcam, but only a few times a week. The sound
worked for that, until yesterday.

I've had the laptop for about a year - wondering if this is a common bug?

Check under:

Under start > settings > control panel > Sounds and Audio > audio. Ensure
the playback device is correct and not pointing to some funny play back
device installed by the webcam. Also ensure that Mute isn't enabled (obvious
I know but I've seen worse).

Thanks - I did that, discovered that the wrong kind of speaker was selected,
and made that change...

Excellent stuff. Enjoy!
