Sound card

Can't get my sound card to work. Device manager says it is enabled but not
turned on. It is a new sound card Creative, Soundblaster live, with the
latest drivers installed. Have tried original drivers with purchased product
and new downloaded drivers from creative.com all to no avail. No errors are
reported except the "not turned on" device manager statement.

Did you disable any onboard audio in the BIOS?

What's the exact error code?

I did disable, in the BIOS, the onboard audio and modem. There is no error
message. In the device driver it appears as enabled but not activated. In
the control panel the audio devices are all unavailable because the audio
device is not activated.

Try a different PCI slot... if possible, the one furthest away from the AGP
or PCI-E slot.

Thanks for response, I already have tried different PCI slots to no avail,
at least nothing changed. in device manager, under sound etc., the creative
sound card is listed, it shows as enabled, properties displays audio, mixer,
midi and on each the properties show the correct driver enabled but not
started. It seems to me a portion of the MS sound files is missing and
therefore not providing the interconnection between sound data and the
driver or mixer. Can I restore from the original win xp cd the sound files
necessary for interaction with this device? How?
