sorting spreadsheet files alphabetically

Computer Xp Home, The CD disc used to display the files alphabetically, It
does if I go details and sort by name but as soon as I change back it does
not hold the sort.
What have I done wrong, the orignal disc became corupted and said it was a
read only disc, I transfered the files to a new disc and cannot get them to
display alphbetically
 
Tools, Folder Options, View tab, Apply to all folders.
