In XP, the file name sort is different from W2K,Win9x and WNT. I have files
named listed in Win9X as following:

601.doc
60101.doc
60102.doc
602.doc
60201.doc
60202.doc
603.doc
60301.doc

but the list XP is as below: (totally different after system changed )

601.doc
602.doc
603.doc
60101.doc
60102.doc
60103.doc
60201.doc
60202.doc
60301.doc

How can i change it back?

best regards,
Jennifer

Hi

The Sort Order for Files and Folders Whose Names Contain Numerals Is
Different in Windows XP Than It Is in Windows 2000
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/319827

To change the sort order back to Pre-XP:

Upgrade to SP1 or SP2 if you haven't already, and then import the
registry file found here:

Change the Sort Order back to Pre-XP (Line 107)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it and
answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by right
clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

The machine needs to be rebooted for these changes to be effective. This
registry setting is available in Windows XP Service Pack 1.

After many complaints in earlier versions that numeric values were *not*
sorted in numeric order, so you had to add leading zeros, XP explorer,
by default, treats any sequence of decimal digits as an intrinsic
numeric value, to be sorted in numeric order (so 9 now comes before
21). You can Use TweakUI - one of the XP Powertoys from
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp
and on its explorer page, uncheck 'use intuitive filename sorting'
