I have a sony MVC CD 250 camera that used to transfer images through the usb
cable to my windows xp computer.
Now I hook it up and I get a message that the device is not recognized. I
contacted Sony support and they say the native windows xp drivers work with
this camera.
It does not show up in my computer, and the camera wizard does not pick it
up-nothing shows up in the device manager.

Some things you can try;
Do you have the disk with the driver that came with the camera? Try
reinstalling the drivers
Shut off your computer, plug the camera in the USB port and turn the
computer back on. See if the "Found new hardware wizard" pops up, if so
select "let windows find the driver" OR " I have a disk" and follow the
instructions . Try both methods.
Try this driver(first question, how to install a USB driver) here
http://esupport.sony.com/perl/model-faq.pl?mdl=MVCCD250 if it doesn't work
you can uninstall it.
Do you have SP1 or SP2 installed?

USB devices can be tricky. You must follow the directions exactly to install
drivers, for example don't plug the USB cable in until prompted.

I tried the sony site-the driver did not work with cd mavica cameras.
I deleted the unknown hardware driver in device manager, restarted the
computer and it started going ok,it found new hardware and I did not get an
error message stating that it was not recognized but the camera did not show
up anywhere-

I have sp2 installed

The camera doesn't appear in my computer or device manager?
I found this http://tinyurl.com/bdgrv it may be redundant but I would try it
anyway.
Is all your other USB stuff working? You can uninstall the drivers for your
USB hub, restart windows and it will reinstall the drivers.

I gave up on this camera-it's to the point where it's not making life simple
anymore-I think something is wrong with the camera itself, all my other USB
devices work fine.

Try it on another computer. The drivers are "native" To XP so in theory the
camera should work on a computer with XP installed. If not then you have
your answer.
