Sony DRU-501A DVD Burner won't see/read recorded DVD+RW's after firmware upgrade

For over a year I have successfully used 4X DVD+RW's (both Sony and Memorex)
to do backups. However, after updating the firmware from V 1.0f to V 1.1a
my computer can no longer see DVD+RW's when inserted. And, I just noted a
notice on Sony's web page for this product (that I don't recall ever seeing
before) that this burner does not support 4X DVD+RW's...fancy that! Note:
All other media types (CD-R's, DVD+R's, etc.) all read and burn just fine.
Has anyone else experienced this same problem? Is there a way to revert the
firmware to an earlier version (1.0f)? Thanks.

Delete the device from the Device Manager, the use the original install disk
that came with it, or whatever Burning software you use.

Deleting and reinstalling your device driver will not change the firmware
update. Firmware is used to affect the phsyical characteristics of a CD/DVD
drive, the driver simply is the software that allows you to run it. If you
backed up your original firmware update V1.Of then you can reflash your
firmware to the original firmware version.
