hey everyone, i got windows xp sp1. In the last coupe days
some weird stuff has happened. First, one of my svchost
programs has been looping or something, makeing the
computer run VERY slow. I have to kill that program, then
run cmd, then type in shutdown -a to terminate the
computer shutdown it made. On another situation, i tried
to come to the newsgroups here on that same computer, and
it wont load the page, the same when i click on pictures
to make them larger in internet explorer. and the last
thing, and the most anoying, every like 10 seconds, a
download window pops up asking me if i want to download
the file 'uninstall' from the site: pop.rfwnad.com.. this
is very annoying considering i just bought the computer.
if anyone could PLEASE help with even one of these major
annoyances, i will be greatly appreciative. thanks in
advance, brandon...

In response to what of your questions, I would go into
internet explorer and change the privacy settings to
allow cookies in order to get your web pages. Secondly,
since its a new computer, the place you bought it from
should be more than willing to help you find out what the
problem is the other issues. That's the easiest way.

You're the victim of a nasty spyware script. Ignore all other advice -
you don't need to take your computer back. You got this from visiting
a website (probably porn, hacking or illicit site - hey, I'm guilty
too!) that infected you with the spyware. Web surfers beware!

Go download the Adaware 6.0 program from lavasoft.
http://www.lavasoftusa.com

This will solve your current problem and will also eradicate any other
nasties from your system. I run it once a week to make sure I'm not
infected with spyware.

If you do a search on google, http://www.google.com and go to the
'groups' tab, you'll find very few discussions on the search string,
"rfwnad." (the domain name of the offender.) Although Adaware does
find the offending spyware component, this must be a new scheme since
the domain name is so hard to find on the search engines. Good luck
with it!

The OP also is infected with Blaster worm. Your advice only addresses
part of their problem.

And as I've written before - you can get hit by a drive-by download from
ANY type of web site, not just the nasty/bad ones.

You've been infected with the Blaster worm and spyware. Search this
forum for information on how to deal with each. The information has been
supplied here hundreds of times.
