MS Security Essentials

I do have a download of MS Security Essentials, which I just installed
on my infected computer. But uit wont run at all until I go online and
download the definition files. I cant do that on dialup. Is there a
way to download those def. files on a different computer at a WIFI, and
then install them on the problem computer? If this is possible, this
will be my last effort to fix this f**ked up computer........

One other thing. I have seriously committed myself to stop wasting time
on XP. and will rather begin learning linux, but I'll probably reinstall
XP one a small HDD on that computer for the time being, and just live
with it's annoyances right out of the box. But I'm wondering if there
is a way to copy some file out of the defective install, to avoid having
to re-activate on that same computer. That info must be stored
somewhere.

Also, I have a clone, which goes back a month or more on another HDD.
But that was never activated, since I cloned it and just put that small
HDD aside. I know it wont run as-is. If I can just copy that clone, or
just use thatr amall HDD and copy in the activated (file)???? Is that
possible?

MS will probably think I'm either an idiot, or doing something illegal
if I have to reactivate the same computer which I just did about a month
ago.

If it's a clone of a drive that worked in the same PC then, and that was
activated at the time, I would expect it to work just fine.

When I was trying to make sure I had all the XP updates awhile back, I
re-activated the same windows PC several times in a few days without real
problem. I did have to use the phone activation once.

I cloned that drive BEFORE activation. I did use that drive a few times
by unnplugging the regular one. to test out linux stuff, and it kept
telling me to activate it, until it finally expired.
