Someone kindly stop the blood letting What's up with Windows Mail

OK, so I've been a Microsoft, Symantec user for well over 4 years. Ran XP
and Norton with NO problems till installing NIS 2007 and Norton Systems
Works. I fought Marathon hours 3-4 days straight FOR 6 WEEKS with an
incredible # of Techs, who in the end gave up. So I decide I want a better
computer and buy an hp pavillion a1710n with 1024 MB Memory, 320 GB Hard
Drive, Dual processors thinking I'll have peace of mind. Far from it. This
unit came with Vista installed & it's been nothing BUT problems from Day One.
Now Windows Mail is not functioning and Microsoft Online Services is off. I'm
NOT at all pleased. Can someone tell me what's going on and how to fix this
or should I just bring it back for a complete refund? This is a one week old
machine!! Incredible. I've accomplished NOTHING.

Understand that I am a real easy going person that has had my chain jerked
one time too many! I tried to call hp and microsoft (Oh Joy, that's just what
I REALLY want to do after a 6 week marathon with Symantec) and was asked if
I'd hold.... which I did, till the inevitable click..."if you'd like to make
a call..." I just spent right at a Grand for a whole new unit that I have yet
to enjoy for 1 stinking day. You would think that for that kind of money I'd
have a unit that WORKS without problems. I need some help with this like NOW.
A one week old machine and nothing but trouble now with Microsoft Online
Services off and WinMail. EXE not functioning due to an error? Come on man!
And what's with D drive being maxed out and all this constant backing up of
files? I thought you said you heard us. How about simplicity with
dependability? If I wanted to be a Tech I'd apply for a job!!

OK, that's two posts basically saying the same things, and you still have
not described in enough detail any problem that anybody can help you with.

"I need some help with this like NOW."

So what kind of help do you want, exactly?

Hey guys. Think about it for a minute. How in the world am I going to receive
email with a dysfunctional WinMail.EXE program? Hello!! I had to answer the
verification email from the backup computer...you know - the one that I was
replacing with THIS NEW ONE that does NOT have a functioning email system?
Now, will you kindly help me? You've got me installing 3 critical updates ON
THE WRONG COMPUTER. IT's IN ANOTHER SECTION. It has OE and it works. This,
the NEW Vista has the Windows Mail that DOES NOT FUNCTION all of a sudden
when yesterday it DID!

First show us your Computer Science degree. If you don't have one, you have
no
business using Vista. 8^0

Actually, what error message(s) do you get, if any? What does your Event
Log say?
We need more to go on than, "It doesn't work!"

Well I bought a Dell about 3 weeks ago and everything was going good until my
wife said she sent e-mail out and didn't get it. She sent mail from home to
me at work and herself at work. When I got home it was still in Windows Mail
outbox. I could not send them. I was able to move all but one of the
e-mails from the outbox. Now that one is stuck there and I can't delete it,
move it, or copy it. I have called and talked to Dell and that is a joke.
Today I am asking for my money back and where can I send this machine to.
Here are the errors I am getting:

Windows Mail

An unknown error has occurred

The above message comes from a pop up box.

This message is in my mail.

Message could not be displayed

Windows Mail encountered an unexpected problem while displaying this
message. Check your computer for low memory or low disk space and try again.

Windows Mail

Support just sucks with Dell. Oh, they will help you if you pay $120.00
for something broken on there machines. That's another thing. Why should I
pay
all that money on a 3 week old machine that they should support.

Well Tom, no doubt I'm sure you realize that with the statement you just
made about having no business buying the Vista 8^0 is going to have a LOT of
people asking, THEN WHY THE HECK ARE YOU MAKING IT READILY AVAILABLE TO JOHN
Q PUBLIC? Hmmmm!
As for the very error, this is it. WinMail.exe Windows Mail could not be
started. The application was unable to open the Windows Mail message store.
Your Windows Mail mailbox data is currently being USED by ANOTHER PROGRAM,
such as a virus scanner. Close the program or wait for it to complete it's
operation, then open Windows Mail again. (0x800C0155,2) Now, you see I am
running Windows 1 Care which I just bought with the Computer. The old backup
left for dead runs fine and is how I was able to receive the verification
email. So at the end of this window I am prompted to click OK at which point
another cute little window tells me "Windows Mail cannot be started because
MSOE.DLL could not be initialized. Get the picture now? Concise enough for
you? It was running fine yesterday as was the backup which runs OE. All I
want to do is transfer my contacts to the new machine and Yes, I can read and
follow instruction quite well, Thank you.

Just in case the first try didn't go through I'll re-write it for you. I'm
sure Tom, that if you are half as bright as you think you are, you no doubt
have realized that the statement made regarding "shouldn't have bought the
Vista 8^0 is going to have a lot of people asking "Then why did you offer it
to the public"? Hmmmm!
As for a degree, that'sbright too. Look I am showing it to you. Can you
see it? Now, the error reads that WinMail.exe was unable to open the Windows
Mail Message store Your Mailbox data is currently being used by another
program, such as a virus scanner. Close the program or wait for it to
complete it's operation then open Windows Mail again. (0x800C0155,2) I then
click OK and another pop up opens and tells me Windows Mail could not start
because MSOE.DLL could not be initialized. I am running a brand new One Care
for both the backup XP and this new machine that according to you I should
never have bought. I hope this answers your question. Now, how about YOU
answer mine?

Ya know , Mr. Lake... the following statement made by YOU is going to open
quite a can of worms. It's quite damning. Just what WERE you thinking when
you said,
" First show us your Computer Science degree. If you don't have one, you
have no business using Vista. 8^0". I'm sure the people will just LOVE it.
EVERYBODY HEAR THAT? IF YOU DON'T HAVE A MASTER'S DEGREE, A DOCTORATE IN
COMPUTER SCIENCE VISTA 8^0 IS NOT FOR YOU."

The question remains the same and is only the beginning. There's much more!

OK. Now I believe we are getting somewhere because you posted the error
message.

Reboot your computer. Then do NOT do anything except to uninstall anything
Symantec or McAfee.

The antivirus is busy scanning, or trying to scan, your email message store.
It looks like it is having a problem with that chore. I am not at all
surprised because Symantec and McAfee anything are a disaster waiting to
happen.

It could also be one of the following:

1. You do, in fact, have a virus in your mail store that the program is
trying to eradicate.

2. The mail store is corrupted

But, I would bet in removing Symantec and Mcafee. I have seen this solve
toooooo many problems NOT to suggest that you do this first. Reboot after
you have correctly uninstalled the offending software.

If Windows Mail now works, get a good stand alone antivirus program, such as
Avast (free) or AVG (free).

Let this die.

I had no trouble at all understanding that it was stated "tongue-in-cheek".

You are just too incensed to see this.

Tarheels - This is the same exact error I got on my new Vista Gateway with
the WinMail program. What anti-virus are you using? McAfee here.

If you search on my screen name, you'll find some threads discussing what I
have learned in the last week or two. Basically, the root cause is
apparently unknown at MS but there is a MS recommended workaround (band-aid)
that has fixed the problem twice for me. Until there is a root cause service
bulletin issued, or someone pinpoints the problem in an application
interface, there is not much more to do that I have found. It will happen
again. Dell (or any OEM) is probably not the issue.

This merchandise is but ten days old and has been set up for just a week. I
am the sole user of this computer. It is well within warranty and I am within
my rights to ask for and to be given the answers I seek.

I was asked to provide specifics regarding errors, which I have, word for
word. Now, I respectfully ask for solutions to which I am entitled.

As a paying customer and long time Microsoft user I deserve cooperation and
to be treated with the dignity any Company should provide it's customers.

There is nothing Tongue in Cheek about my request. A sound email system is
Paramount to me as thru a solid email system is how I conduct my business. It
is how I buy and pay as well as how I sell and collect. I need and expect for
a machine of this caliber to perform basic computer tasks.

With all due respect I would appreciate some cooperation.
Thank you.

BTW, posting the same basic thing 7 times in three hours, without giving
many real specifics, is not going to get you too much assistance.

I have McAfee. I read something that I should uninstall it. Is this true?
That will take care of my problem?

McAfee, huh? Interesting that this happens on Dell & Gateway with McAfee.

McAfee is an easy target around here but I have found no clues or facts
leading me to uninstall it yet. Turning off McAfee services had no effect on
the stuck outbox e-mail & no-send on that account anymore once it happened.
I have had no other Vista Ult. or anti-virus problems that I am aware in 3
weeks or so of use.

'MS Help' on the phone worked me thru the band-aid solution by copying
e-mail boxes I wanted to keep then regenerating the whole Windows Messages
folder and copying back the inbox/sentbox with msconfig used to stop non-MS
processes. You can find more info. posted by me and others in that regard by
searching around here.

Four weeks ago I worked on a 1 day old Toshiba Laptop that came with McAfee.
The user had nothing but problems and could not even connect to the
internet. I told him I would remove the McAfee Suite and install stand alone
anti virus and anti spyware utilities. He wouldn't hear of it.

The next day he called cable vision. They sent out a technician. Guess what
he did. He removed McAfee everything.

The guys Toshiba is now running lick a clock. Except, the cable guy didn't
install anything in it's place. Oh well, it's not my computer.
