Software to clean one head

Moo

I used to have software that would allow me to choose which print head
required cleaning and only clean that (i.e. just black & not colours) but I
can't find it again!

I have an Epson C66 and it is just the black that needs doing, I had another
Epson before (C44 I think) with which I used the software and if I remember
correctly it took over from the standard Epson software.

I've searched the web and the newsgroups to no avail, anyone able to help?

Many thanks,

Moo

Well as I (think) I implied in my post I don't want to be wasting colour ink
when the black head may need 3 or 4 cleans, the software allowed me to
choose which head I wanted cleaned and then there would be no wastage from
the other cartridges where there is nothing wrong.

I was thinking the utils for my 1270 and/or R800 allowed choosing what
color to run specifically.

I think what you're looking for is called the SSC Service Utility.

The website was timing out on me when I looked this up, but you can
probably find it somewhere else.

As far as I know there is no such software, this is because of the way a c66
is designed, down to a price with a life somewhere around one year and a day
:). If you, and quite rightly so don't want to waste ink the a set of
cleaning carts could be the answer. Some may say squirt a few drops of
cleaning solution down the offending head, if this is way is used one could
cause damage which on that model would cost more that to replace. I purchase
my cleaning carts at £.1.65 ea and I use seven your would be a fraction of
this.

Where do you buy them from?

Lookin at your posting you are in the UK. the address is www.valueshop.co.uk
they do a package for the C66 at around £11, if my memory serves me the
price includes postage. The people I buy my ink from are
www.247inkshop.co.uk the ink seems just fine and is cheap, hope it 's of
help.

Older Epson printers had two separate cleaning stations, one for the
black, and one for the color (usually three colors). This required two
cleaning pads, two purge pumps, and more complex cams to control all of
this.

To reduce size and cost, Epson removed the second unit and made the
cleaning station one unit, and eventually made the head one unit also.

With one cleaning station and one head for all colors, a vacuum cleaning
(which is the main way Epson heads get cleaned) cannot pinpoint one
color anymore. In fact, all the heads, and all the cartridges are
impacted equally now.

They no longer allow you to select between black and color.

They basically can't.
