So Where's My Network Place?

I have two XP PCs on a LAN and am trying to get a third one up on it. I
can see it's there from this PC, but can't get to it. The new one
probably needs a share and something else. I do not see a My Network
Place on its desktop. How do I finish this off?

I don't know how you finish it off, but you can verify the My Network
Places is set to display on the desktop:

Right click on the Desktop and click Properties.
In the Display Properties window click the Desktop tab.
Click the Customize Desktop button.
Within the General tab, check or uncheck the desktop icons you wish to
display on the Desktop.

I'll give it a try. Any idea why it wouldn't somehow appear as part of
connecting the computer to the network?

Well, that worked, but it looks like I may have been mistaken about
seeing the new workstation from here. From My Network Places I don't see
Computers Near Me. A search via Google shows:

Sometimes, the Computers Near Me might be missing from My Network
Places. To get it back, create/modify the Last Domain (string) value in
the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer
to 0,0,Unknown.

I don't recall every doing this on either an old W2K PC or any XP
computers I've had on my LAN.

Well, nope, it does connect. I went to the other building, and played a
bit. I clicked on Network Places, then the LAN icon for that PC, and got
a message it was connect. I came in here and sure enough, I could not
only see it but could get to it. No password required. Hmmm.

At some point out there not long ago, I tried sharing the C-drive. I got
a msg that wasn't a good idea but went ahead anyway. Perhaps that
explains the no pwd required. What to do now? The computer out there
can't see this machine, but it can see it. It has no See Computers Near
Me. Fumbling along ...
